Mayflower Community Congregational Church is located in south Minneapolis at the corner of Diamond Lake Road and I-35W. The intergenerational, 600-member congregation is affiliated with the United Church of Christ. Mayflower is an *Open and Affirming, Peace with Justice, and Earthwise church actively discerning its call to help realize God’s dream of justice in the community and the wider world. We gather at Mayflower to grow spiritually, to enact Christ’s call for justice, love and understanding, and to affirm the sacredness of God's creation and presence in an often ambiguous world.
*Open and Affirming (ONA) is the designation for congregations, campus ministries, and other bodies in the United Church of Christ which make public statements of welcome into their full life and ministry to persons of all sexual orientations and gender identities. Our Common Beliefs We of Mayflower Church. . . Differ in our circumstances, our points of view, our patterns of family life, our religious heritage, our understanding of church, and the nature of our involvement.
seek unity in the patterns that connect us in our ways of worship, sustain our Christian tradition, establish our commitment to spiritual growth, demonstrate our concern for one another and the world beyond our walls, and embody God’s love for all people.
In our common life, we uphold the growth of a welcoming, caring, open and diverse community, based on respect and concern for all.
We strive to provide an environment that...celebrates life with laughter and tears...invites questions, exploration and reflection...supports both those who risk and those who refrain...recognizes that right to fail... addresses the needs of each stage of life’s journey...stimulates communication and promotes education...intends to be inclusive in assembly and expression...fosters creativity, affirms diversity, supports action, and appreciates the paradoxes of our journeys.
We celebrate the sacred in all of life...affirming the beauty and integrity of creation, working for the peace, prosperity and well-being of all people, seeking justice within the global community, and accepting our role as stewards of life’s resources, in the light of the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Mayflower Church is affiliated with the Minnesota Conference of the United Church of Christ (UCC). Mayflower Church also is a member of the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches (GMCC), ISAIAH (a justice-based coalition of churches who work together to influence public policy on key issues), and TRUST (an ecumenical coalition of churches in South Minneapolis working together to serve our neighbors by providing a variety of social services).
Mayflower is also proud of our relationships with the Plymouth Church Neighborhood Foundation (our partner in the Creekside Commons workforce housing project recently completed on church property adjacent to our church), the Mayflower Foundation (an independent foundation dedicated to furthering Mayflower Church's mission to achieve Jesus' peace on earth), the Mayflower Early Childhood Center (an affiliated preschool and childcare program housed in Mayflower Church), the St. Paul-Minneapolis Chapter of PFLAG (whose local office is housed in Mayflower Church) and The Museum of Russian Art (a world-class private art museum located across the street from Mayflower).
